Mechanics: Everspace 2 is an action-orientated space simulator, and while it shares similarities with tradition space similarities, the combat mechanics are closer to that found in titles such as Star Wars Jedi Starfighter or Colony Wars than a traditional space simulator such as Star Wars Squadrons, which offers players a high level of control over their ships shields, weapons and engine output. While I can understand why ROCKFISH is not supporting VR in Everspace 2, and agree with their argument (low player participation), I can’t help but wish Everspace 2 supported VR especially as VR Gaming is becoming more affordable and thanks to games like Half-Life Alyx vastly more popular than when the original Everspace released. Graphics: Everspace 2 is an indie game that doesn’t know indie games are not supposed to look this good, while the art style is clearly different to that employed by AAA titles, the ship models, environments, and textures in Everspace 2 are AAA quality.Įxplosions, lighting and weapon effects are satisfyingly flashy and when playing in first-person mode incredibly immersive. Still, he did so with good intentions no one intentionally torpedos their own franchise. Still, the developer did not deserve the abuse he received, he gambled on new mechanics, and they fell flat. Gratuitous Space Battles 2 was a great disappointment, and many of the mechanical changes made the game less enjoyable. Yes, and it sucked, not only by failing to capture the magic of the original but shipping as a buggy/incomplete mess that was widely panned by the Gratuitous Space Battles community.
Everspace 2 seeks to build upon the foundation of the original while being unafraid to make decisive changes to the formula, will these changes go down well with the fanbase or rare we looking at a “Gratuitous Space Battles 2” category fiasco? Wait there was a Gratuitous Space Battles 2?
